Mulebone

Details: Mulebone is the duo of multiinstrumentalist, John Ragusa and roots music specialist, Hugh Pool. Their musical home is the traditional blues; sometimes they play it straight ahead, while at other moments they float above it, viewing and interpreting from a distant vantage point. John plays conch shell, Jews harp, cornet, all manner of flutes, and tin whistle, while Hugh plays slide guitar boogies, one chord riffs a la Howlin’ Wolf and country blues of all shapes and colors.

Details: Steppin’ In It and Rachael Davis are known nationally for their folk repertoire, and when they join forces as Shout Sister Shout they focus on old-time American Jazz featuring swing numbers and bluesy ballads. These Lansing musicians perform on vintage instruments and create their own brand of roots music combining old-time country, swing, and blues, a sound reminiscent of the days of oldtime radio, with musicianship that is positively staggering. Songwriter and vocalist Rachael Davis is a 2002 Boston Music Award winner.

Blue Origami

Details: Andrew Bishop's Blue Origami is a 21st Century global jazz and blues project that stands at the intersection of Eastern and Western influenced music. The Trio includes Andrew Bishop on reeds, Duncan McMillan on Hammond B3 organ, and Alex Trajano on drums. Leader and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bishop is a master improviser in diverse musical genres, and as a composer he has over 20 commissioned pieces to his credit.

Details: A master of vocal inflection and involvement, Josh White Jr. is considered one of music's premiere performers. In the shadow of his father, Josh White Jr. invokes the presence of the Senior, making music for the masses and masses for the music. His simple acoustic renditions reveal layer after layer of intrinsically belabored design; pure, unadulterated chords and notes, along with deeply intense lyrics.

Photographers & Kat Eggleston

Details: Photographers is a homegrown Traverse City roots music band that weaves original songs about ships, mustaches, best friends and Dalmatians. The band includes: Maren Hoopfer on ukulele and keyboards, John Hanson on guitar, and Dan Mills on percussion and glockenspiel. Kat Eggleston who comes to us from Seattle, has the soul of a poet and the voice of an angel; her songs blend vivid, often gripping, imagery with memorable lyrical melodies. Kat delivers deep and intense interpretations of traditional folk tunes as well as her original compositions.

Jeff Haas & Friends

Where/When: Homestead Resort, Thursday, 7 pm
Details: Ride the chairlift to the top of the ski hill for a magnificent view and amazing concert! Pianist/composer Jeff Haas grew up in Detroit in a home rich with music. Haas' unique blend of African-American, Jewish, and European musical traditions has earned him national attention. The Detroit Free Press said of Haas, “…his blend of Jewish music and jazz offers a path lit with originality." Jeff Haas can be heard weekly on Interlochen Public Radio hosting “Jazz Connections”.
