Children's Classes

childrens classesAll supplies provided unless specified. The Glen Arbor Art Association has a generous scholarship program. Just ask! Don’t be shy! Our teachers are artists themselves and love to bring out the natural creativity of young people. They are fun, supportive, and inspiring while guiding children in finding their own self-expression.

Jenny Evans completed her bachelor’s degree in art education in Auckland New Zealand in 2004. After returning, she moved to Glen Arbor and continued sharing her passion for the arts with youths across Leelanau County. She just completed her fourth year teaching 1st -12th grade at Northport Public School. Currently, Jenny is obtaining her Master’s degree in Humanities. This will be her sixth year teaching at the GAAA and she is looking forward to seeing all the smiling faces enter her classroom.

Nancy Miller is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University where she earned a bachelor of Art Education. She has taught art to children in summer programs at NMC and GAAA. She has helped to develop GAAA’s pottery program at Thoreson. Nancy continues to explore her own creative interests through ceramics and watercolor painting.

Allison Stupka is a trained Montessori teacher. She has a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. She has taught art to young children for many years and enjoys their excitement when they discover that they can create using a variety of techniques and projects they can confidently and happily complete.

Melissa Kelenske is the owner of Inish Knits in Cedar, where she teaches students of all ages to knit and spin. While knitting, spinning and dyeing consume most of her time (and her thoughts!), Melissa also holds a bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing from Hope College, proving that an English degree can take you anywhere you’d like to go!

Nicole Martin holds a bachelor of Elementary Education degree from Taylor University. She has 8+ years of experience teaching elementary students on three different continents. She is currently pursuing her Master’s of Art Education degree at Concordia University. She enjoys using her love of travel, teaching, and art to raise her two sons.

Cathy Siterlet has a Masters of Art from CMU and has done additional graduate work at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and the Elkhorn Mountain School of Weaving. She paints, makes willow and birch furniture, weaves baskets, and is a fiber artist. She is an award winning teacher.
